CURRENT SEASON: The Time of Your Life, February 10-25

                    Picture
San Francisco, 1939. Surrounded by a world on the brink of war and ravaged by depression, Nick's Pacific Street Saloon attracts an assortment of “important nobodies” who share the common bond of searching for purpose. Their dreary routines of survival are sparked by brilliant flashes of hope and beauty as the events of a single day change their lives forever.

Director Laura Braza, a recent Drama League Director’s Project Alum and Artistic Director of the Attic, chose this play because “San Francisco in October of 1939 looks familiar to us: a community on the edge of war, facing labor relations issues, and fighting every day for work.  The world was changing rapidly, and every character in this play has to find their footing in this new age.  Saroyan’s work mixes gritty realism with a heightened, optimistic view of humanity.  The epicenter of this fracturing world in dive bar on San Francisco’s waterfront, and he brings us 26 wildly eccentric characters.  This play has a lot in store: music, dance, comedy, drama, moments of genuine awkwardness, and a generous spirit that lends the play something unique and exciting.  Our production promises to be dynamic, energetic, and great fun.”

                    MISSION STATEMENT:

The Attic produces American plays that seek to identify and describe our complex national identity. We curate, develop, and produce new works and re-invigorate classics that focus on historical events, genres, and ideals that are distinctly American. Our raw, energetic interpretations challenge our New York audience to question our cultural identity.
